I was commissioned to take some business portraits of Kenny Picken, MD of TravelTek at his offices in East Kilbride last week ahead of their announcement that they are creating 200 new jobs.
With all my portraits I try to capture a piece of the story of the person in front of my lens and because these pictures were targeting the business press it was important to show that Kenny was the boss of a company in the travel industry. I did a quick recce of the nearby area on Google Street View before heading down there to see whether there were any possibilities for showing some context to this exciting worldwide travel business. Unfortunately the area around the head office on a wet snowy January morning didn’t quite fire my mojo in the way I was hoping for after reading about their offices in Miami, Syndey, Hyderbad and the soon to open Sao Paulo, Shanghai and Dubai.
But once I arrived, I found a host of offices with floor to ceiling photographs from palm fringed Caribbean beaches, the Sydney Opera House, Hong Kong by night and many more which gave me a fantastic opportunity to give the portraits all the travel context I could have hoped for.
